Thermal efficient PIR boards for luxury loft apartments insulation

Products Used: Celotex XR4000
Sector: Housing

Sitting on the North West's "golf coast", with unimpaired views of Anthony Gormley statues and the sea beyond, the prestigious and elegantly designed Burbo Point development sets a new benchmark for apartment blocks.

Featuring Merseyside's most expensive apartment, the £1.7 million penthouse is the crowning glory of the development, a joint venture by Blythe Homes Plc and Ultimate Homes and built by Felton Construction.

RAL Architects specified Celotex XR4000 for the internal roof space having been won over by its excellent thermal properties, which makes it a consistently popular choice with architects and specifiers across the country.

With such effective insulation per mm, it is ideal for minimising the shell thickness whilst ensuring that the building's thermal envelope provides optimal energy efficiency. At Burbo Point, the Celotex insulation solution was used to maximise roof space in the stylish loft apartments for a more spacious and open effect.

Celotex XR4000 insulation boards are a proven means of reducing heating needs - thereby lessening carbon emissions and lowering costs. Though durable, the boards are extremely lightweight and easy to cut to fit. After being shaped, the boards were simply slotted into place between the rafters where they were fixed with the innovative Celotex Insulation Clip.

RAL Architects commented, "This scheme utilised modern methods of construction, with high performance materials specified throughout to respond to the aggressive nature of the environment in which the building is located - overlooking the Irish Sea. Specifying Celotex products ensured our pre-requisite of using high quality materials was maintained."

Now opened to a great deal of fanfare and media attention, the first owners are preparing to move in to the stunning residences at Burbo Point. They will notice the high quality finishes, the Porcelanosa bathrooms and Miele bespoke kitchen appliances, but one key element of their homes will be hidden to them - the Celotex XR4000 insulation that offers supreme energy efficiency, lowering their heating bills and protecting the environment for decades to come.

Key considerations

When using Celotex products, you need to satisfy yourself that use of the product meets all relevant national Building Regulations and guidance as well as local, national and other applicable standards relevant for your construction or application, including requirements in relation to fire and applicable height restrictions. In addition to the product datasheet, please refer to the following product documents:

Celotex products should not be used in the external walls of buildings over 11 metres in height. Recent changes to Building Regulations mean that only non-combustible insulation or insulation of limited combustibility should be used in buildings of that height.
